Protecardio: A 100% natural formula for controlling cholesterol levels

The extract of red yeast rice is the most effective cholesterol-lowering nutraceutical on the market. In particular, its effectiveness is directly related to the amount of monacolin K within the extract.

The fermentation of red yeast rice by the fungus Monascus purpureusproduces monacolin K, which is a natural statin-like molecule. It acts by competitively inhibiting a key enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) within the pathway of cholesterol biosynthesis. As a result, monacolin K can effectively modulate the lipid profile by reducing total cholesterol and low-density-lipo-protein cholesterol LDLC (the bad cholesterol). A recent scientific study carried out in patients intolerant to statins reported that red yeast rice was as effective to induce a dose-dependent decrease of LDLC levels, with a superior safety and tolerability profile.

In fact, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has officially recognized that there is a direct relationship between the consumption of 10 mg daily of monacolin K, from red rice yeast, and the maintenance of normal concentrations of LDL cholesterol in the blood.

Protecardio contains 200 mg of red rice yeast, dosed at 5% in Monacolin K, which corresponds exactly to a daily supplementation of 10 mg of monacolin K (1 capsule / day), according to EFSA indications.

Coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10) is also known as Ubiquinone. Factors such as age, cholesterol level, disease, exercise regimen, gender, muscle mass, and race can decrease the plasma Co-Q10 concentrations. Once we humans reach adulthood, the bio-synthesis of Co-Q10 decreases with increasing age. It is practically impossible to make up for the decrease in endogenous Co-Q10 synthesis by eating more Co-Q10-rich foods. Because endogenous bio-synthesis is our primary source of Coenzyme Q10, supplementation is a must as we grow older.

For the purpose of cellular bio-energetics, which is the bio-medical term for the transformation of the energy stored in nutrients to the chemical energy of ATP, the ubiquinone form of Co-Q10 is essential. The process cannot start without it. In the inner membrane of the mitochondria in the cells where energy is produced, the Co-Q10 is much needed in the form of ubiquinone. 

The consumption of Monacolin K results in an inhibition of Co-Q10 in the organism.

For this reason, Protecardio includes an additional 30 mg of Co-Q10 for each capsule, to compensate for the possible shortage of this enzyme in the body.
